Savu Sea

Elasmobranch and reef fish biodiversity assessment.

This expedition would be really important for helping improve the current Savu Sea MPA zoning and management plan. Sharks and rays were not included in the original MPA plans, but we now have an opportunity to include shark and ray protections, however, we need the data to be able to do this. Our organization and our partners are working in coordination with the government, and they have expressed that they would like our help to gather the data on sharks and reef fish in the Savu Sea. This trip would be going to remote areas where very few surveys have been conducted, so there is lots of potential for exciting and important discoveries, and the results from the trip will directly go towards conservation action and management, both at the policy and frontline level.
